Pillars of Positivity
At the helm of the Overlanding Africa team is Alice Lombard, with over a decade of experience in the African tourism industry. Alice's expertise stretch from Eastern to Southern Africa and her team has extensive knowledge across more than 12 African countries.
As Overlanding Africa's senior travel consultant, Thys, one of Alice's team members has years of field experience and has perfected the art of campfire cake baking and matching the perfect trip to each enquiring traveller. We say that's an art too.
From surviving being trampled by an elephant, rammed by rhino and walking in on fresh leopard kill, Karl the third member of the team has grown a pair and uses them to get clients great deals - always delivering on finding a trip within a client's budget. His expertise is more on the Eastern side but can always pack a bunch for the Southern side as well.
Her undying love for overland travel brought her to Overlanding Africa's travel consultant desk where Megan, Overlanding's fourth consultants has booked clients from all over the world a seat on the journey of a lifetime, a thousand times over. Her passion, enthusiasm, infectious laugh and calm personality are a constant pillar of positivity, making for happy, satisfied clients all the way.
Together the team will ensure that you have the best time you can posibly imageine. Just jump on board.

I am currently looking at companies to become a member of crew with. Having led groups overseas for years; with HGV1; a background in Mechanics and a real want to stay in Africa for the next couple of years this seems like an ideal opportunity. How do you recruit crew leaders/drivers from the UK? I am currently based in Kampala but there is virtually no work down here so i'm seeking out opportunities to begin in the next 6 months or so I look forward to hearing back from you.

Hi; I was looking for a 7-day tour in South Africa and came across your website. The "Cape Town and Garden Route" tour has particularly drawn my attention. Actually; I will volunteer in a private game reserve near Krugger National Park from October 29th to November 26th and I'm looking for another 5/7 day stay starting on November 27th. As I am travelling alone; is it possible to take part in this tour? Feel free to contact me for any further details. Thank you very much in advance. Hi Whitney! The difference between the two is that the Kruger Lodge Safari is an accommodated trip; whereas the Kruger Safari is camping - other than that they are pretty much the same. Most people on any trip are solo/independent travelers; however you do get couples or friends traveling together. Cheers!
- whitney01 Mar 2011

Hi; What's the difference between the Kruger Lodge Safari and the Kruger Safari? Also; do most people travel with companions or do you often accommodate single travelers? Thanks.

Hi Justin; It really depends on the trip but these days the age range is really mixed. On average you could say most people are late 20's; early 30's however some trips favor older people and some younger. Most people on any trip are solo/independent travelers but you will find a few couples or mates traveling together. The minimum age is 18 on any regular overland trip and you could find people range from 18 to 80. Have fun!
- Justin02 Feb 2011

What is the average age for travellers on longer trips to africa? (6 weeks or more) Im a fairly young guy (just turned 20) and I am curious the range of ages. Do you get many people travelling alone? whats the youngest age for a lone traveller on a long expedition?
- Tania - OverlandingAfrica.com01 Feb 2011

Hey Trevor; Any activity that falls into a destination anywhere between Cape Town and Nairobi has provision made for it in the trip itinerary as a standard feature. Therefore time is allowed and you won't have to catch up with your truck or get the next one. Most activities in either Nairobi or Cape Town cities will be done before or after your trip only. Hope that makes sense. :)

Hi We were interested in going from Johannesburg to Cape Town overland but the problem is we have a 12 year old girl accompanying us and I could not find any suitable tours(family tours). We are a very well travelled family(we have travelled extensively in Asia and South America) and we camp;tramp(hike) and travel a lot(we camped and travelled in the States and Canaada for 3 months when our children were 12 and 7) We feel our daughter could easily cope with the 23 day Vic Falls to Capetown tour but are children allowed?

Hi there Pearl The climate of Mozambique is typically tropical; with a wet season during summer; between October and March; and a dry season from April to September. There is little variation of temperatures between the seasons; differences being dependent on altitude. The wet season brings the heaviest rain along the coast; and cyclones are also experienced during this period.Temperatures along the coast averaging 80°F (27°C) with average coastal temperatures of 88°F (31°C). Cheers

Hi Patrick; We do the longer overland trips through Victoria Falls and do not have anything as short as you require. However all you need to do is book a return flight from Johannesburg; jump in a taxi at Vic Falls airport and book a nights accommodation. Any activities in Vic Falls are either within walking distance of the Falls or can be organised with a local Vic Falls booking agent. Book and pay directly on the day. Have fun!

Hi Vickum; The trucks can change depending on the departure date but it will be almost identical to the green truck pictured above. All Mercedes trucks. Drive days can range from 4 to 9 hours depending on road conditions etc but I would say an average would be approx 7 plus stops. Happy travels!

Hi Johan; Sounds like a great plan! And you are right - rather wait until after the World Cup (or go before) when prices and availability are back to normal. One of our consultants will be getting hold of you today to get some more info so we can sort you out a itinerary and price. Have a blast!

I am organising a 2-week overland trip in SA for a bunch of friends. The idea is to spend one week in and around CT (incl. the garden route) and then one week Safari in Kruger; without spending too much time in between. I am hoping to get a group of 20-30 people together and guess it makes sense to do it a few weeks after the world cup for the prices to go down; some time in August or September. Would it be possible to organise a tour just for us and how much would it cost; more or less? Regards johan

We'll have 5 kids; ages 16 through 11; and 3 adults in their late 40's in August 2010 in South Africa. (Most likely Aug. 12 through 22). We're looking for a wonderful; affordable family vacation that will start and end (or allow us to get back to Jo-burg)but will take us through Botswana and Vic Falls. We'll have already stayed with South African friends and have done all that we want in the country of South Africa. Thanks for your advise.
