About Lake Kariba

Lake Kariba birdlife is rich and diverse, with a large number of endemic and near-endemic waterbird and other species to be found, as well as migratory species from Southern Africa.

As one of the largest man-made lakes in the world, Lake Kariba conservation plays a key role in preserving the range of species which the lake supports.

Lake Kariba malaria medication includes the following:

•Atovaquone/proguanil (Malarone)

Plants

Lake Kariba plant life consists of aquatic vegetation, plus montane shrublands, woodlands and Acacia vegetation along lakeshores and further inland.

Safety Tips


•Generally, Lake Kariba is safe to visit
•Do not ever swim in the lake - hippos and crocodiles do not like to be disturbed
•Roads can be bad in rainy season, so look out for potholes
•Avoid large crowds and street demonstrations which may turn violent
•Be cautious at game reserves and do not attempt to touch or feed wildlife
