Hwange National Park bird life is incredibly rich, with some 400 species of bird recorded in the park. With a range of habitats and birding hotspots including the dams and pans, the park forms a vital network of aquatic ecosystems for migrant and resident birds.

Conservation

Hwange National Park conservation plays a key role in protecting the large number of species within the park, including Africa’s Big 5 (lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard) and a large number of bird species.

Plants

Hwange National Park plant life is mostly very scarce, with a dry climate and minimal vegetation. Ecosystems range from desert sand to sparse woodland as well as grasslands and granite outcrops, with fine hardwood forests of mukwa and Zimbabwean teak.

Safety Tips

• Stay in your car at all times during game drives, unless stopping at a rest stop
• Do not ever attempt to feed or touch any wildlife you see
• Do not swim in rivers or lakes ' crocodiles and hippos can be present
• Just to be on the same side, keep valuables locked up somewhere safe
• Zimbabwe as a whole can be unstable, so take basic precautions when travelling to Hwange

Wildlife

Hwangwe National Park wildlife includes large predators such as lion, cheetah and lion, plus a number of other game such as elephant, buffalo, zebra and a large concentration of giraffe. Game drives give you the chance to view large numbers of game in a range of beautiful habitats - be sure to bring your camera!
