Zimbabwe Overland Tours
The endless Lake Kariba is located halfway down the Zambezi River
and it borders two countries, namely Zambia and Zimbabwe. The lake
is man made and provides electric power to both Zambia and Zimbabwe.
There was much controversy about the dam being built as it destroyed
much wildlife and local villages. There was also the superstition
that the Nyaminyami (the river God of the Zambezi) would get angry
if disturbed and thus unleash its powers on the creators.
Lake Kariba is a mass expanse of crystal clear water which makes
boating and watersports popular. There is a rich flora and fauna
life that makes the area attractive for birdwatching. Houseboats
are a common sight on Lake Kariba and prove to be a very popular
attraction for visitors. Travellers are rewarded with the ultimate
luxury of staying overnight on the boats and spotting game from
the tranquil waters of Lake Kariba. Admire the golden sunsets as
you gently float past spectacular vegetation.
