A day-by-day breakdown of what to expect and where you'll be staying.
Day 1, Nairobi to Arusha
Leaving behind the bustle of Nairobi, you travel south to the Tanzanian border, after completing border formalities you continue to Arusha which provides the base for your optional Serengeti Excursion.
This evening you will be briefed by our local operator on the Serengeti Excursion and you will have the opportunity to pack for the coming days. A smaller daypack or bag will be required for the Serengeti Excursion as it is operated on smaller vehicles and luggage space is limited. The Serengeti Excursion is offered only as a camping excursion and sleeping bags are available for hire.
For those are not taking part in the optional Serengeti Excursion, you will remain at the lodge in Arusha. This presents the opportunity for a variety of Day Tours that can be booked on arrival in Arusha this afternoon, these include Day Tours to Arusha National Park, Tarangire and Lake Manyara. For those who prefer to immerse themselves in the Maasai Culture, why not join a 2-day trip to Olpopongi Maasai Village. All activities are optional and as subject to availability with the service provider. Optional excursions can be booked through local operators like Tanzania Experience www.tanzania-experience.com or Tanzania Expeditions www.tanzania-expeditions.com. Pre-booking is not essential, but may be advisable to ensure availability of your preferred option. Meals are not included for those not participating in the Serengeti excursion.
Day 2, Arusha to Serengeti National Park
The following days are set aside for the 3-night camping excursion into the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. This area has one of the most densely inhabited large animal populations in Africa.
The Serengeti excursion is in open topped 4×4 safari vehicles in order to tackle the challenging side roads in the parks. You'll leave your accommodation in the morning and drive to the Serengeti. On arrival you will start with your first game drive. The campsites you'll visit are fully owned by the Tanzania National Parks Board.
Over 90,000 tourists visit the Serengeti National Park annually. These facilities are sadly not sufficiently maintained by the Parks Board and you have attempted to offer your services to improve the situation, however your offers were not accepted. We do ask that you have an open mind when visiting the ablutions in the Serengeti National Park. Please supply your own wet wipes and toilet paper.
Day 3, Serengeti National Park
Spend the entire day game driving through the Serengeti. Our route is dependent on the movement of the game and sightings.
Day 4, Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Today you explore more of the Serengeti and make your way to the famous Ngorongoro Crater. You'll drive down to the bottom of the Crater, where you try and see as many animals as possible
Day 5, Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Arusha
Return from the Serengeti and re-united with your truck and crew in Arusha. A welcome shower awaits you on your return and tonight you'll share a meal in camp as you prepare for tomorrow’s travel.
Day 6, Arusha to Bagamoyo
Head out early this morning as you journey south to your overnight stop in the coastal town of Bagamoyo. Formerly a centre point of the East African slave trade, Bagamoyo lies just north of the port of Dar es Salaam and is a perfect launching point for your upcoming Zanzibar Excursion.
While today is primarily a travel day, you'll experience the hustle and bustle of one of Africa’s major travel routes. Road travel in Africa is an experience in itself and the bustling markets, villages and scenic backdrops that line the routes give a window into the lifestyle of rural Africa. This evening you will prepare for your Zanzibar Excursion that begins tomorrow morning.
Day 7, Bagamoyo to Nungwi
Complete the short journey into Dar es Salaam this morning and board your ferry for the two hour trip to Zanzibar.
After arriving at the ferry port you'll board and make your way to Nungwi on the northern shores of the island, take the opportunity to visit the spice farms of Kidichi and Kizambani on your way this afternoon. Zanzibar is renowned for its spices and fragrances and you have the chance to experience this first-hand today. There are a number of excursions that can be arranged for the coming days in Nungwi and your guide will be on hand to assist.
Day 8, Nungwi
Today is a free day for enjoying some of the many attractions and activities on offer. Water sports are the order of the day and Nungwi offers fishing, snorkelling, scuba diving and a variety of ocean safari options. Whatever it is you chose to do today, you will have ample opportunity to create some island memories. Rent a scooter and explore the many attractions on offer or simply relax on the beach and soak up the sun.
Day 9, Nungwi to Stone Town, Zanzibar
Your visit to Nungwi comes to an end today as you travel back to Zanzibar Town in the afternoon. Boasting a rich history this bustling port was once a landmark on both the Slave and Spice trade routes, you'll spend your final night on the island on the beaches south of the port city.
Day 10, Stone Town, Zanzibar to Dar Es Salaam
This morning you have an opportunity to explore the historic area of Stone Town before catching an afternoon ferry back to Dar es Salaam. Stone Town represents the historic centre of Zanzibar Town and is a must see for those with an interest in history, culture and the unique architecture of the historic port. Although your tour comes to an end upon arrival back in Dar es Salaam, you will have the opportunity to enjoy an optional dinner out in Dar es Salaam.

The highlight of my trip had to be Gweru in Zimbabwe, it was my idea of paradise. So much to do there with the animals and the location of it was just beautiful!
