There was also the superstition that the Nyaminyami (the river God of the Zambezi) would get angry if disturbed and thus unleash its powers on the creators. Lake Kariba is a mass expanse of crystal clear water which makes boating and watersports popular. Houseboats are a unique and popular sight on Lake Kariba.
