White Water Rafting/Canoeing in Africa

Experience the thrill of huge rapids in an African river. Canoeing and rafting is a unique water sport for adventure seekers
of all levels. Africa has a number of fun white water rafting and canoeing adventure destinations to explore.

Africa's Best White Water Rafting

Zambia’s Livingstone area is known as the ‘adventure capital of the world’ and for good reason – the white water rafting in this area, on the Zambezi is out of this world. With large rapids and the thunder of the falls in the background, the action is fast and furious.

The Breede River in the Cape also offers some great rapids, and the Orange River is famous for being a top South African white water rafting destination.

Canoeing in Africa

Those seeking something a bit more sedate can enjoy canoeing trips down the Zambezi River, with crocodiles and hippos to look out for.

The Okavango Delta in Botswana is also an ideal place for canoeing, with calm waters and wildlife along the banks offering a perfect tranquil setting.

Safety Tips for rafting in Africa

Safety precautions should be taken at all times – especially in areas known for crocodile and hippo sightings. Life jackets should always be worn at all times, and trips should only be done with registered and experienced guides.
