Trucks - Overland Africa Expedition Vehicles
Once you have decided which African
countries you would like to visit on your overland tour, then
we suggest you browse through the different types of overland trucks
and safari vehicles used for touring Africa. You will discover that
there are a variety of overland trucks and each tour will not use
the same truck. Therefore, it is important that you spend some time
viewing the overland trucks as much of your time will be spent around
or on your overland truck.
All Africa overland trucks are purpose built either in the UK or
in South Africa. Overland trucks
are equipped and maintained to manage extreme conditions and generally
Scania, M.A.N and Mercedes are the vehicles of choice. All overland
vehicles have been custom-built for overlanding.
Africa Overland Truck Equipment
All trucks have long distance fuel tanks, water tanks and contain
all equipment needed for an overland tour, such as: tents, camp
stools, tables, kitchen equipment and much more. There is also a
safe available for all of your valuables, a stereo for fun times
and internal and external lighting. The seating arrangements vary
from vehicle to vehicle. Some of the seats face each other inwards,
others face forwards and some face backwards. A few vehicles are
even equipped with tables inside the actual truck!
The overland trucks carry an extensive array of spare parts which,
combined with the crew’s mechanical knowledge, should be enough
to get you on the road again in the event of a breakdown.
Types of Overland Trucks, safari vehicles and equipment
For your benefit we have divided the trucks into class
A and class B vehicles:
| Class A vehicle: |
 |
Class B vehicle: |
- The vehicle contains fully lockable windows and is hard-sided
- Electrical fridges are generally used
- Dome tents are mainly used
|
- The vehicle has roll up PVC sides
- Mostly cooler boxes are used
- A mix of dome tents and A-frame tents are used
|
The choice of truck is entirely up to you as there are different
advantages to each class of truck. For example a Class A
truck, with windows, is fully lockable whereas a Class B
truck, having soft sides, allows for more of an outdoor feeling.
When searching for a tour please confirm
the symbols regarding the class of vehicle you are on, next to your
selected tour.
