Uganda people you may encounter on your Overlanding Africa.com safari include a large number of ethnic groups, with smaller percentages of white, Asian and European people. Key tribal groups include Baganda in the central area (17%), Basoga in the south-eastern area (8%), Banyankole (8%) and Bakiga (8%) in the south-western area, Banyoro (3%) and Batooro (3%) in the in the mid-western area, Bagisu in the eastern area, Bahima (2%) and Bafumbira (6%) in the south-western area, and other much smaller ethnic groups including Langi, Acholi, Lugbara and Karamojong.

More than half of the population is under the age of 15, and the population is predominantly rural, with its population being the highest in the southern regions. AIDS, poverty and war have left a mark on the growth and birth rate in Uganda, with the average life expectancy being 52.72 years, and a death ratio of 12.32 deaths/1,000 population (2008 estimate).
