Oh Peter - what a tough question! It has been year or 2 since I was in Uganda but you shouldn't go too wrong with the following: as a rule Visa is accepted everywhere (as their advertising says ,) ). Most of the bigger cities, such as Kampala, have ATM's that accept cards marked with Maestro/Cirrus at international banks such as Stanic/Stanbic/Standard Bank and Barclays/ABSA. The biggest mistake people make is to not notify their own bank that they will be using their cards overseas - so the first time you use it your bank blocks it thinking the card is stolen. Advise your bank before you travel. Banking in Uganda is fairly primitive compared to some other African countries so it does not hurt to have cash on hand just in case and don't rely on the ATM's having cash even if they do accept your card. Good luck!

Hello. Can you tell me if the Maestro Card is accepted in ATM's in Uganda. Some sites say that it is Visa only but some imply that some banks notably Stanic Bank does accept this. Could you possibly advise which is the case. Thank You.
