Health Precautions in Uganda – Health

While there are not many major health precautions in Uganda – health facilities are not the same as they are in first world countries, and in the rural areas and villages, hospitals and health care facilities may not be available at all. While most visits to Uganda are safe and free of issues, follow these basic health precautions to stay healthy during your trip:

•    Tap water may or may not be safe to drink, depending on the area you are visiting and the overall quality of the water supplies – to be safe, rather stick to bottled water during your travels.
•    Most food is safe to eat, but be careful when eating meat dishes – especially if you purchase food from markets and outside vendors – some food may have been standing a while, while other meat dishes may not be tummy-friendly.
•    Pack a basic first aid kit with all the stuff you would need, such as headache pills, nausea and tummy pills, band-aids, bandages, ointment and other supplies.
•    Make sure that you get all the vaccinations that are required, and ask your doctor about any potential health risks.
