Cappadocia culture on your Overlanding Africa.com trip is just as unique and interesting as its strange and alien landscapes and rock formations, with a history dating back centuries. The region is mentioned in the Bible, and plays a key role in Turkish history and ancient culture.

History and ancient rule:

The earliest recorded mention of Cappadocia was in the 6th Century BC, with mentions in the Bible and much other documentation throughout history. Once a Persian Kingdom, the region was also ruled by Greek, Roman, Turkish, Byzantine and many other kingdoms throughout history.

Cuisine and nightlife:

Strangely enough, beneath the ancient hills of Cappadocia there are secret underground night clubs, which offer entertainment for visitors to the region. Many delicious dishes can also be enjoyed in the region, with local wines ranked among the best in Turkey.

Media and movie industry:

With its fascinating topography and landscapes, Cappadocia is fast becoming a popular filming location for many locally and internationally produced movies and adverts.
