Day 1, Antananarivo to Andasibe National Park

After arriving in the capital of Madagascar we drive past villages and rocky mountains to the eastern part of the country which boasts many primary forests and lakes. There is a chance to take a night safari in the Reserve of Andasibe where we can observe Lemurs and other nocturnal animals.

Day 2, Andasibe National Park

Spend the morning looking for the Indri Indri (the largest lemurs on the island) and other endemic animals like chameleons and Tenrecs in the Special Reserve of Andasibe. In the afternoon interact with the locals and see how they live during a visit to the Betsimisaraka tribe who live mainly off the forest.

Day 3, Andasibe National Park to Antsirabe

Across the green highland landscape with its beautiful rice fields and eroded hills we drive to Antsirabe which is also known as 'the place of salt'. Founded by the Norwegians, Antsirabe is also known as the centre of the beer industry and we can smell the Star brewery as we enter the town.

Day 4, Antsirabe to Ranomafana National Park

On our way to the Ranomafana National Park we drive past Ambositra which is the centre of Madagascar's wood carving industry. Houses are made with ornately carved wooden balconies and brightly coloured shutters and the landscape is dominated by pine forests, eucalyptus trees and rice fields.

Day 5, Ranomafana National Park

Considered one of Madagascar's highlights the Parc National de Ranomafana, with its rain forested hills, is abundant in wildlife. The terrain is characterised by densely forested hills and numerous small streams plummeting down into the Namorona River. We go for walks in the park and may spot some lemurs if we are lucky.

Day 6, Ranomafana National Park to Isalo National Park

Leaving Ranomafana we pass Fianarantsoa (the city where one learns good things) which is the gate to the South and the capital of the Betsileo tribes. Travelling even further south to Isalo we pass through the huge ‘Plateaux de Horombe’ with its very deep red soil.

/images/flickr/Photo_of_Isalo_National_Park_Madagascar_/3199054254_s.jpg

Day 7, Isalo National Park

Today we visit the Isalo National park and walk to the crystal clear 'natural swimming pool'. On our way we see some interesting vegetation such as 'Elephant foot' and are rewarded with a spectacular view of sandstone mountains with beautiful colours and strange, eroded forms. Lemur lovers will enjoy this hour and a half walk as we might spot Brown Lemurs, Sifakas and Ringtailed Lemurs as well as lizards, snakes and over fifty five species of birds.

Day 8, Isalo National Park to Ifaty

After breakfast we continue to Tuléar which brings us new scenery such as the dry forests of the west and the spiny desert of the south. After a short visit to Tulear and its 'Mahafaly and Antandroy tombs' we drive to Ifaty - the driest part of the country.

/images/flickr/Photo_of_Ifaty_Madagascar_/2807876275_s.jpg

Day 9, Ifaty

Our day here is at leisure and being close to the beach means we have a variety of optional activities to choose from. Go Scuba Diving, Snorkelling, Whale watching or visit the local village to experience the Vezo Fishermen's way of life.

Day 10, Ifaty to Antananarivo

Transfer to the airport for a flight back to Tana. The afternoon is at leisure in the 'City of Thousands' where the first king started to unify the different kingdoms on the island. Spend the last day exploring Tana - see the Rova, the queen's palace, Rainiharo tombs or just take a walk from high city through mid city to the lower town.
Flight - excluded from tour price.

Day 11, Antananarivo

Time to go sadly and we are transferred to the airport for our international flights.
