Many travellers are concerned about Tanzania safety – is it safe to travel to Tanzania? With warm, friendly locals, plenty of tourist-friendly hot-spots and a relaxed way of life, Tanzania is mostly a safe and pleasant country to visit. With that said, like anywhere else you visit, it is always best to take basic safety precautions.
Large crowds and street demonstrations should be avoided, as these could turn violent. Tanzania’s proximity to Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya and other potentially volatile areas make the border areas less safe than the tourist areas, so take care when travelling into and out of Tanzania by car. All travellers should avoid travelling alone, especially after dark, and should keep valuables safe and out of site.
As Tanzania is all about wildlife viewing, it is also important to remember that wildlife should never be approached, and that you should not ever leave your car on game drives unless your tour guide has given the go ahead – some parks are unfenced, so extra precautions need to be taken.
