The most common Tanzania languages you may hear on your Overlanding Africa.com safari include Swahili, Arabic and English. Swahili is the official language, and is a very easy language to learn.
English, as one of the official languages, is widely spoken however, especially in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and tourist orientated areas. Many locals will be able to easily converse in English, and are happy to have someone to practice on, and in return may even teach you their native language.
Swahili is also spoken widely, even by non-native Swahili speakers. This language has become the common language of East Africa, and is very easy to speak and understand. Arabic is spoken in some parts to a lesser degree, with some lesser known tribal languages also spoken to some degree.
