Dar es Salaam budget safaris are a penny pinching travellers dream, as it is easy to travel to the islands of Zanzibar and the remote game reserves, such as Selous Game Reserve, Ruaha National Park and the Mahale Mountains Nation Park.

Access to Tanzania's iconic safari destinations, Serengeti and Ngorongoro, is also easy from Dar es Salaam.

A fish market is found on the northern side of the harbour, Kivukoni Front. Every morning at dawn the fishermen come back to shore to offload the nights catch.

The vendors along India Street and the intersecting Indira Ghandi Street are also a must-see and have a wide range of supplies and goods.

Tania - OverlandingAfrica.com26 Feb 2010: Hi Sarah, I suggest you contact the high commission of your country in Dar Es Salaam and ask them. We can't comment as we are in Cape Town and really have little idea about current crime rates in Dar. Personally, I wouldn't walk around there at night but I have never had a problem there in the past. In saying that, it has been a few years since I was in Dar so rather get more current info. Cheers,

How safe the place is specially at night. his job requires him to travel outskirts of the city is it safe. heard crime is conducted by the police itself...please help..how safe the residents are.. how do u rate place in comparison to Indian city like Mumbai/delhi.
