Birdlife

Arusha birdlife is rich and diverse, with a large number of endemic and migratory species to be found. Arusha National Park has over 400 species, including water birds, plus forest dwellers, savannah species and grassland species. Species in this area include Lesser flamingo, Maccoa duck, scarce swift, Nyanza swift, Horus swift, Hunter's cisticola, Kenrick's starling, Abbott's starling and Sharpe's starling among others.

Conservation

Arusha conservation is essential to protect the biodiversity and precious habitats within the region. One of the key conservation efforts is the beautiful Arusha National Park, which is one of the top game parks within Tanzania and is home to a multitude of plant, bird and wildlife species.

Habitat within key areas such as Arusha National Park ranges from highland montane forest to lowland swamp, with zones of dripping moss with soft clover underfoot, as well as open heath spiked with giant lobelias in the higher areas.

Safety Tips


• Arusha is a safe place to visit with very little crime
• When on game drives, do not ever get out of your car unless you are at a rest stop
• Keep valuables in a lodge safe or in a moneybag under your clothes
• Do not ever try and feed any wild animal you see, no matter how cute it looks ' animals can be unpredictable and feeding them encourages trust of humans, leading to interference
• Don’t swim in any lakes ' crocodiles and hippos could be lurking beneath the water

Wildlife

Arusha National Park is one of the top game spotting destinations on the Tanzania Northern Safari Circuit, and wildlife here is rich and diverse. Common species within the park includes beautiful black and white colobus monkey, blue monkeys, olive baboons, elephants, giraffe, hippo, leopard, hyena, zebra and a wide range antelopes.
