Syria Safety - Is it Safe to Travel in Syria?

You may be concerned about Syria safety, with many wondering “is it safe to travel in Syria?” Generally speaking, the answer is an emphatic yes – Syria has a low crime rate, with occasional petty crime that you would find in any city in the world, friendly locals and minimal issues. However, due to renewed conflict between Israel and Lebanon a few years ago, many large demonstrations began to occur throughout the Middle East. To ensure that you stay safe, avoid any type of protests or large demonstrations you come across, which may turn violent.

There has been an increase in child beggars in Syria, especially around tourist attractions, mosques and historical sites. These are mostly harmless however, but travellers should be aware that they may pose a risk. The best way to deal with them is a polite but firm “Leeh!” which means “No!” in Arabic. Be careful if you are travelling alone, as beggars can also sometimes have scams running that target visitors.
