Family connection is important and friendliness between family members, guests and neighbors is always through a warm welcome and plenty of food and drink. The Arabs of Syria are predominantly Muslim as well as Christian, another religious and cultural group known as the ‘ Druze’s’ also exists. The mix of cultures and religions live fairly harmoniously and this is founded on common values related to family and community. In an area like this it is hard not to feel the closer social proximity people identify with.

Overall Damascene culture is friendly, welcoming and accommodating. If you don’t speak Arabic, don’t worry, they will find someone who speaks it. If you do make a cultural or social blunder, they will not take offence but better to inform yourself so as to practice informed, responsible and sustainable tourism which emulates a level of immersion and regard for the place you wish to explore.
