Mezze platters are usually served before the main course. Arabic coffee is enjoyed by most Syrians, as well as a local beer called Al Shark.
Music:
Music in Syria includes classical Arab music, Syrian chant, muwashshah (a form of Andalous sung poetry), Syrian Jewish traditional music as well as newer pan-Arabic music that is popular with the younger people of Syria.
Literature:
Syria literature has been influenced by political history, with more conservative traditional literature as well as contemporary literature such as science fiction and futuristic utopiae to be found.
Fairs and festivals:
There are almost 20 festivals in Syria each year. These include spring fairs, film festivals, religious festivals, cultural festivals and many other festivals that offer a taste of Syrian culture at its best.
