Sudan Budget Travel
Due to its troubled and conflict-laden history which makes travel at this time unsafe, Sudan budget travel outside of Khartoum are not recommended.
This beautiful country is known for its 40 year borderline civil war, as well as the friendliness of its people, and for travelers who are able to enter the country and do not venture beyond Khartoum, Sudan will be an experience to treasure.
Sudan Budget Safaris
With a fascinating and troubled past, and a warm and hospitable people contrasting to the stark desert environment, Sudan budget safaris are not for the faint-hearted.
Visas can be tricky and expensive to organise, and travelling into Sudan can be highly dangerous – with many borders closed due to conflict.
The capital city of Khartoum is relatively safe however, and offers a range of highlights and attractions including amazing views and interesting sights and cultures.

Hi Tanya, There is no exact answer to this question. On an overland trip, only you know how much you are likely to spend, do you smoke/drink/love shopping? An average of about USD 20 – 30 per day on top of any optional activities is a good rule of thumb. It is also a good idea to make sure you have an accessible emergency fund just in case. Happy trails!

Hi Jackson, the weather temperature during the coldest months in Sudan changes between 5 and 15 degrees. Mountain area gets colder and the temperatures are lower when compared with lower areas during the coldest months is between 7 and 17 degrees. I would recommend you contact the local weather bureau for more information. The terrain in Sudan is generally flat, featureless plain, mountains in far south, northeast and west, desert dominates the north. So depending on the areas that you will be living in will determine what you will wear. Happy trails!

Hi Rok, How many overland trips there are in Sudan I can help you with.... How much rain exactly, I have no idea. I guess you will need to get hold of the local meteorological service or weather centre - I am sure they can assist. Cheers,

Hi Nikkos. What a great adventure you have planned. Traveling through Turkey and the Middle East is stunning!! We have 5 or 6 trucks traveling through Sudan every year one of which came through heading south just a few weeks ago. Some take the main tar road and some take the 'Nile route' through the desert. We have not had any problems either way. Most smaller vehicles take the tar road and you will meet other people in 4WD vehicles along the way down to Egypt that I would recommend you get together with and arrange to travel Sudan and northern Ethiopia together if possible. Do not take the 'Nile route' unless you have FULL off road equipment, space to carry extra food, lots of water and extra fuel and preferably go with a support vehicle, (another similarly kitted 4WD vehicle). Keep an eye on the news reports and chat to other people coming north to see what the current situation is when you get there - obviously things can change very quickly. Call me in the office anytime if you need more info. Happy trails!
