The local Xhosa call Hole in the Wall "izi Khaleni", which means "place of thunder", as during certain seasons in high tide, the sound of the waves crashing through the hole can be heard across the entire bay.

Attractions nearby include a good hike to the Hole in the Wall from Coffee Shack, as well as the beautiful Silaka Nature Reserve along the coast.
