About Hogsback

Tucked away in South Africa's Eastern Cape you'll find the serene Amatola Mountain town of Hogsback. Now this is a spot-and-a-half if you're into the great outdoors! It's got hiking trails, horse riding, bird watching, fishing and waterfalls. It's a really popular place for backpackers - for both accommodated and camping travellers.

The recommended way to explore Hogsback... is on foot. There is a network of hiking trails to keep travellers more than busy experiencing the views, vegetation and waterfalls.

You can pick up a hiking trail map at the Hogsback tourism office on your way into the town. A map will help you pick the intensity level of the hike you'd like to take through the mountains' rich forests.

The Hogsback wilderness is perched about a 30 km stretch from the town Alice. Hogsback is pretty much in the central-southern part of South Africa, almost half way between Alice and Cathcart.

Boy, oh boy, does Hogsback have waterfalls!

There's hiking and horse riding... and hiking with the horse that you'll be riding.

Grab your curiosity, love of nature, and adventurous spirit, and head down to Hogsback the moment you get a chance. Just don't forget your camera.
