Drakensberg Budget Travel

Drakensberg budget travel is a highly recommended stop on any South African backpacking tours, with a lot to offer visitors to this stunning area.

The Drakensberg is 200 km long and the highest mountain range in Southern Africa. The largest part of the Drakensberg area falls in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province.

The Dutch Voortrekkers called the mountain range “The Dradon Mountain” and the Zulu people call it “Ukhahlamba ("barrier of spears").

Drakensberg Budget Safaris

Drakensberg budget safaris are ideal for hikers, climbers, rock art fans and anyone else who loves nature and the beauty of mountains.

The Drakensberg is where the largest collection of rock paintings by Bushmen is found. There are between 35,000 and 40,000 works of Bushmen art. Between the Royal Natal National Park and Bushman’s Neck some 20,000 individual rock paintings have been recorded at 500 different caves.

Valleys in the region include the Champagne Valley in the Central Berg, Cathedral Peak and the Didima Valley, the Royal Natal National Park and Amphitheatre Valley and finally the Middledale Pass Valley in the Northern Berg.

I suggest you contact the Drakensburg Tourism Office who will provide you with a complete list of operators that offer hiking tours in the area. Cheers Dayne
