The Cederberg is a rugged mountainous area that is very popular
for hiking. The views are dramatic and the rock structures a masterpiece.
Attractions in the Cederberg area include overhanging cliffs, the
looming Wolfberg cracks and massive rock arches. The area is great
for hiking as it offers keen geologists and nature lovers a spectacle
of delights!
During the summer months the Cederberg suffers from extreme heat
and it is best to cool off in the Olifants river. The river offers
massive crystal rock pools with overhanging cliffs - perfect for
thrill seekers to launch themselves off. During the winter months
(June/July/August) if it gets cold enough, you will find beautiful
mountains covered in snow. There is an observatory that lies at
the foot of the Cederberg which allows interested parties to view
the clear night skies that offer the best views in southern Africa.
Open air astronomy lectures are given and it makes for a great way
to spend the night!
Relax at the Cederberg, cool off near a rock pool of water and
admire the various rock structures. The Cederberg is one of South
Africa's best kept and inviting secrets!
