Sandboarding in Africa

Not for the faint-hearted, sandboarding is a lot like snowboarding – except instead of snow, sandboarders use sand dunes. Extreme sport junkies will enjoy
sand boarding across dunes in the
deserts of Namibia or sampling
the mine dump dunes of Mount Mayhem.
Wide range of sand boarding spots
can be found across Africa.

Africa's Best Sandboarding Experiences

Namibia is obviously one of the top sandboarding destinations in the world, with endless dunes and vast open spaces to explore.

Cape Town also offers some exceptional sandboarding at the beautiful Atlantis Nature Reserve, which is situated just 45 minutes outside of the main city. Dunes here are white and pristine, and the film industry often uses this location for shoots.

Johannesberg
hosts an old mine dump now known as Mount Mayhem makes the ideal sandboarding spot. Locals and visitors from other countries flock to Mount Mayhem to enjoy some world class extreme action.

Hermanus along the West Coast of the Cape also offers some great sandboarding, with the added benefits of whale watching during season (June to November) as well as abseiling and micro-lighting.

Please note, proper equipment has to be worn for sandboarding. Beginners should never attempt sandboarding without an instructor or experienced sandboarder on hand to assist.
