Africa Overland Vehicles and Camping in Africa
Trucks - Overland Africa Expedition Vehicles
Once you have decided which African countries you would like to visit on your overland tour, then we suggest you browse through the different types of overland trucks and safari vehicles used for touring Africa. You will discover that there are a variety of overland trucks and each tour will not use the same truck. Therefore, it is important that you spend some time viewing the overland trucks as much of your time will be spent around or on your overland truck.
Africa Overland Truck Equipment
All trucks have long distance fuel tanks, water tanks and contain all equipment needed for an overland tour, such as: tents, camp stools, tables, kitchen equipment and much more. There is also a safe available for all of your valuables, a stereo for fun times and internal and external lighting. The seating arrangements vary from vehicle to vehicle. Some of the seats face each other inwards, others face forwards and some face backwards. A few vehicles are even equipped with tables inside the actual truck!
What happens if we break down?
The overland trucks carry an extensive array of spare parts which, combined with the crew’s mechanical knowledge, should be enough to get you on the road again in the event of a breakdown.

Hi there. I have planned a trip and booked all accomodation and now I am looking to see if it is possible to organize transport with you. My trip starts in Harare and we would like to leave Harare on the 28th of December to go to Inhasorro where i have booked accomodation for 2 nights. I will then be leaving for Tofo on the 30th where we have booked accomodation at bamboozi lodge for 3 nights. We would then be coming back to Inhasorro on the 2nd of January for 1 night before coming back into Zimbabwe on the 2nd.On the way back from mozambique we have booked accomodation in Nyanga, close to the Gairazi river. I have just come back from there this weekend and the roads are good as they have just been graded. we would like to stay in Nyanga for 2 nights before comming back to Harare on the 5th. There are around 10 or 12 of us that would be looking to go. I would just like to know if you offer anything and what circumstances there would be and what sort of price. Thank you for your help and i look forwad to your reply

Hi Emily! Overlanders are usually aged between 18 and 50 and are relatively fit and healthy. Exceptions are made to the age bracket for those over the age of 50 who are healthy and young at heart. If you fit between these age brackets, enquire through our website and one of our consultants will be in touch with you regarding some options! cheers:)

Hi Bev, Travel time in the truck will vary from day to day with some days being drive days which will involve driving all day and some days only a few hours or short distance to the next destination. This however will depend on which tour you decide to join. Cheers

Looking at the trucks page it suggest browsing the different trucks but I cant seem to find a page on your website to do this. Finaly what would be the best time of year to do this trip weather conditions wise? Thanks Again.

Hi Susan, most trucks have facilities to charge your phone and camera batteries but this you will only be able to do once your truck arrives at the campsite and is plugged into a power source at the campsite. However some trucks have facilities to charge your equipment while traveling. Cheers Dayne

Hi Can you give me some more information about what amenities are available on the trunks in the Namibia tours. i.e. charging for phones and cameras etc Thanks
- Dayne - Overlanding Africa.com31 Mar 2010

Hi Sue, The trucks all have different specifications depending on which tour you will be traveling on and in which country. On all tours you are provided with a sleeping mat and a tent, all you need to bring is your own sleeping bag or rent one. Some not all trucks have lockers for storage for your personal items. Trucks can take 16 to about 30 passengers depending on which tour you would like to join. I have emailed you some photos of standard overland vehicles. Cheers Dayne

I would like to know more about the trucks, for instance, is there any way of charging cameras etc on the truck, do you provide camping mats, what is the capacity of the truck, are there any individual lockers or such like for storing personal daily use items? I would also like to see more photos of the inside of the truck and facilities provided. Thanks
