Build Your Trip to Africa
Overlanding - Meals
There is nothing like a good meal to keep you energised for all the adventures and activities Africa has to offer.
Will you have enough food for me?
Those whose main concern is whether or not they will be fed enough on their overland in Africa will be relieved to hear that the overland vehicles are well stocked with staple foods at the beginning of each expedition. They try to maintain as much variety throughout the expedition as possible and restock from stores and markets along the way. Fruit and vegetables are fairly easy to obtain on all the routes, overland companies make special provision for vegetarians!
What's on the menu?
In the morning:
Toast, spreads, yoghurt, cereals and fruit for mornings and at mornings not on the move it could be time for a good fry up.
At Lunch time:
Cold meats, salads and sandwiches
In the evening:
A selection of casseroles, lasagnas, stews, roasts and grills with a compliment of salads and vegetables.
Everyone helps out
You can also perk up your cooking skills while overlanding. Whilst the crew do the lion's share of the organising, they do divide all overland participants into cooking teams who'll find themselves wearing the chef's hat once in a while.

Hola Luciano. Vegetarians; Vegans and anyone with allergies or special dietary requirements can be catered for as long as you tell us in advance so we can let the Crew know and they can shop accordingly. Keep in mind that your favourite foodstuffs you can purchase at home are not always (if at all) available in Africa. Happy trails!

Hello! I am very interested to go to Africa next year; 2012 but not sure when there would be a safe; and best time to travel. The plan is to have my father; who is 59; my Mother who is 53; my sister who is 30 years old; while I am 23 years. We are all in reasonable shape. My father would love to go to Madagascar; I would love to go to Kenya; and my sister/mother has her heart set on the Safari. Is this trip possible on a low budget in a 2 week time period? I would love to make this dream possible. If there is any information that you could give me; that would be great!:)

Hi Wina; the stop overs largely depend on the airline you travel with but typically it would be Jakarta - Bangkok or Dubai - Addis Ababa then on to Bamako airport in Mali. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Hi Linda; This tour is a great option for a combination of beach and bush. Overland vehicles are similar and to see the different option i suggest you check out our web pages on the truck and crew. All camping equipment will be provided and you are only required to bring your own sleeping bag. This tour averages 16 passengers but can take maximum 24 passengers. To find out more about the optional activities and their prices i have emailed you a detailed dossier. If you want more information on money on tour check out our page on money matters.Cheers

Hi; we are seriously considering joining the 14 day Mozambique Magic Tour leaving on November 22nd. We have a few questions... What is the vehicle like we'll be travelling on ? Do we get sleeping mats ? Have many other people booked into the tour ? (Likely size?) Where would we be staying in Kruger ? Can we see details for possible accommodation upgrades that have been mentioned ? How much are activities like quad biking and snorkelling ? Above the cost of the tour; how much additional money would you anticipate we'd need ? Think that's it for now ! Thank you very much; Linda and Andy from Australia.

Hi MJ; Sadly $500 will not get you very far in East Africa these days. We will send you a few options on email and see what we can work out for you. Have fun!

Hi--My fiance and I will be ending our honeymoon around the world trip in Africa. We will fly to Nairobi either in December or in May of next week. We will have from 10 days or 1 month depending on which month we come visit in. We are trying to keep our costs (including all extra fees; etc) to $500/person. Is this possible? We were thinking of a safari in Kenya and Tanzania.

Hi Ruth; It depends on the trip. Some trips include a sleeping mat which is usually a 40-50mm thick compressed foam mattress. Some do not include mats so you would bring your own. We recommend the 'self-inflating' camping kind. Larger 'air beds' are not allowed nor are they practical. Have fun!

What do we sleep on in the tents? A roll of foam is okay with me though; like Leonard; I do find the ground a bit hard now. I don't want to be stuck in hotels; cabins; or the like.

Hi Leonard; if you need a little comfort we have a wide selection of accommodated tours to suit you. I have sent you an email with more details about these options. Cheers Dayne

Your trips sound wonderful. However; I am not as young as I once was and need a little comfort; mainly I can no longer sleep on the ground. Do the tents have cots or the like that we can sleep on?
So what is life like on the road?

The highlight of my trip had to be Gweru in Zimbabwe, it was my idea of paradise. So much to do there with the animals and the location of it was just beautiful!
