Birdlife

Swakopmund has a large number of bird species across its rich habitats. As large number of birds move through this area each year, with a large number of endemics to be seen as well. Some of the most common bird species to be seen includes coastal birds such as dabchicks, avocets, Egyptian geese, moorhens, flamingos, plovers and other small waders.

Conservation

Swakopmund is a popular gateway to a range of coastal and desert conservation areas. There are a large number of habitats, from coastal areas which support sea birds and marine life, to vast desert areas which support land mammals and a number of bird species.

Wildlife

A number of Swakopmund wildlife species can be found across the town's habitats. Some of the most common species include black-backed jackal, brown hyena and Cape fur seals. Springbok and gemsbok can also be found near the coastlines, while desert elephants can sometimes be spotted outside of the town in the surrounding desert.
