Namibia people you may meet on your Overlanding Africa.com are as diverse as the country’s landscapes, with approximately 2.2 million people of all races living together across the various regions. About 60% of the population lives in the northern regions, while the southern and coastal areas are almost unpopulated. Sadly, the effects of Apartheid in Namibia have left their mark on the country as a nation, which is still striving to find its cultural identity. The rich influences from its various tribes add to the diversity and contrast of Namibia however.
There are about 11 ethnic groups represented in Namibia, the largest of which is the Owambo people. Other groups include the Himba tribes, plus Kavango, Herero, Damara, Nama, San and Tswana groups. In addition to the indigenous tribes, there are also coloured and Afrikaans or German speaking white groups also living in Namibia.
