About Luderitz

Luderitz is situated in Namibia. Luderitz backpacking tours offer a range of attractions including hiking, desert horses and sand dune exploring.

Luderitz birdlife is mostly comprised of aquatic birds. Large numbers of flamingos, cormorants and seagulls can be found in the lagoons in this region.


Luderitz conservation efforts include marine conservation as well as habitat conservation, with a number of initiatives based in the area.


Luderitz malaria information includes:
•Malaria medication is not needed for Luderitz
•Malaria medication includes Larium, Malarone, or doxycycline
•If you are coming from a malaria zone be sure to continue the course as prescribed
•Follow basic guidelines such as using mosquito repellent and mosquito netting
•Speak to your doctor about malaria medication you will need


While Luderitz plant life is mostly sparse, with a desert and semi-arid vegetation. A range of succulents and desert plants can be found however, including the fascinating Luderitz Stone Plant.

Safety Tips

•Luderitz is generally a safe and friendly travel destination
•Petty crime such as muggings, pick-pocketing and car break-ins are more common in the cities
•Keep valuables out of sight and secure, and carry a certified copy of your ID at all times
•Avoid travelling alone through the desert areas as it can be easy to get lost
•Be cautious in game reserves and do not leave the camp to wander alone as wildlife can be present at any time

Luderitz wildlife includes a range of marine life, from Cape fur seals to fish, as well as small rodents, while snakes and a number of lizards can all be found in the region.
