Namibia Overland Tours
The distinguishing feature in the Waterberg National Park is the
compressed sandstone plateau. The plateau has a top layer of sandstone
which, when it rains, soaks up the surface water and gives rise
to some spectacular water features at the foot of the plateau.
The water is not a source which dries up and evaporates quickly,
therefore attracting plenty of birdlife and wildlife to the area.
The colonies of Cape vultures are regular visitors to the area and
are the only surviving colony of this breed. Due to the abundance
of water the Waterberg National Park attracts rare and threatened
species that include white rhinos, sable and roan antelopes.
There are many hiking circuits around the plateau and the area
is a unique destination for travellers interested in spotting rare
African wildlife.
