The Skeleton Coast is an area that exhibits a spectacular contrast
in scenery. With two incredible settings, the sea and the desert,
it makes for a popular highlight amongst travellers. The Skeleton
Coast is so named as it is a stretch of deserted coastline which
houses ancient shipwrecks and human skeletons. The sea is rough
and at times uncharterable which made it common for ships to drift
ashore.
Cape Cross is situated along the Skeleton Coast and it is home
to a colony of seals which it is famous for. In either one of the
areas you will be reminded about just how unspoiled this wilderness
area is when you stumble across a Welwitschia (whirlwind of grass).
The southern part of the Skeleton Coast is open to the public and
is a well visited area, whereas the northern part is far more desolate.
The Skeleton Coast and Cape Cross are perfect for overlanding through
as they present complete opposites of nature brought together as
one!
