Namibia Overland Tours
The Fish River Canyon in Namibia is the second largest canyon in
the world, the first being the Grand Canyon. The Fish River Canyon
stretches southwards for 180 km and because of its barrenness and
isolation, wildlife is rare. You may see baboons or klipspringers
if you are lucky as they do not mind the dry conditions in the Canyon
and the only vegetation is the dwarf shrub. The Fish River Canyon
ends at the Orange River which borders Namibia and South Africa.
Overlanders are rewarded with some of the most interesting hiking
trails in Africa. The area is barren and a full hike extends for
some 90 kms and ends at the hot spa area of Ai-Ais. What a perfect
way to end a long, strenous hike! The views within the canyon are
spectacular and present a fascinating geology of sheer cliffs, plateaus
and interesting rock strata.
There is nothing more peaceful and relaxing than being surrounded
by one of the great geological wonders of the world.
