Birdlife

Praia do Tofu birdlife is incredibly diverse, with large numbers of water birds and forest birds to be found. Large populations of flamingo can be seen, as well as pelican, waders and an array of forest species from lilac-breasted rollers to sunbirds. Birdwatching opportunities are excellent, so be sure to bring binoculars.

Conservation

Praia do Tofu conservation plays a vital role in protecting this part of Mozambique's island habitats. Marine conservation is especially important, and many critically endangered fish and marine species like loggerhead turtle can be found within the seas surrounding Praia do Tofu.

• The crime rate is generally low around the island
• Tropical cyclone seasons run from November to April and coastal areas should be avoided ' flooding may also occur during these months
• Avoid using ATM’s on the streets and keep valuables out of sight and secure
• Do not attempt to scuba dive without a qualification - there are dive schools nearby which offer courses
• Roads are often in very bad condition to be cautious when driving
