Bilene Budget Travel
Previously known as San Martino in its colonial days, the small sleepy village of Bilene is situated 160km north of Maputo in the Inhambane Province, overlooking the beautiful Uembje Lagoon.
Bilene budget travel offers idyllic beaches, clear waters that create a safe haven for swimming, sailing and diving, and a peaceful village atmosphere that makes this town a hugely popular destination for Mozambique travelers.
Bilene Budget Safaris
The lagoon is a huge stretch of water about 8 km wide and 27 km long, decending to a depth of 50 metres. The shores are shallow however, making the lagoon ideal for safe swimming, while the rolling sand dunes and lush vegetation surrounding the lagoon offer beautiful views.
Outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers are guaranteed to find a range of activities and attractions on our Bilene budget safaris, including bird watching, scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing and swimming.
There are a range of camps and resorts offering accommodation, with a good selection of budget accommodations on offer for travellers on a tight budget.

HI Natalie, we only sell scheduled overland truck safaris and Bilene is a destination on our Mozambique trips. Your best bet would be to contact the bus station in Maputo for more information schedules and times to get to where you would like to go. I recommend you contact the local tourism information center in Bilene for more information on activities and things to do in the area. Happy Trails!

Hi. Your website is really informative! I live in Bulawayo Zimbabwe and would live to visit bilene. I would like to know which bus i can catch from maputo to bilene. Is there public transport to move around since im not driving. What activities can i enjoy and for how much? I would favour a boat cruise and wild life. I would like to come in november but i am concerned about the weather. Your response would be greatly appreciated. Regards natalie

Just wondering if you have any ideas how to get people from Maputo airport to bilene without hiring a car? Are the buses from the airport local buses or are there luxury buses? We have a few elderly people in the party

Hi Clara, Good question! Generally the more water lying around the higher the likelihood of mosquito's and therefore malaria. It really depends on where you are staying in Bilene (and it's proximity to stagnant water) but I would not have thought that the risk of malaria is that much higher than in Maputo. I suggest you contact the best local doctor or tropical diseases clinic for up to date malaria zone stats. before you decide. Prevention is the key with malaria so use your repellent and cover up at dawn and dusk.

I am early pregnant and don't take any anti-malaria products. We live in Maputo and have a week-end booked in Bilene end of September. Is the malaria risk much higher in Bilene than in Maputo? Would you recommend me not to go? Thanks
