Benguerra Islands Budget Travel

The Benguerra Islands are situated in Mozambique, in the Bazaruto Archipelago. The islands are named after a chief, and Benguerra budget travel remains a popular option for Mozambique travels.

The waters surrounding the Bazaruto Archipelago features one of the last habitats of the Dugong (Seacow), and is now a key conservation and eco-tourism destination.

There are also three freshwater lakes to explore, which host freshwater crocodiles as well as many bird species.

There are a wide range of delicious seafood specialities to enjoy, including On kingfish, king and queen mackerel, kawakawa and springer, and the much sought-after bonefish can sometimes be caught around the island or further out to sea.

Tania - OverlandingAfrica.com19 Apr 2010: Hi Kelly, There are public buses and minibuses that run between Maputo and Vilanculos where you can then take a Dhow Safari out to the Bazaruto and the Benguerra Islands. Otherwise you can fly directly into Bazaruto and save yourself a long, bumpy drive. Have fun!
