Djenne Budget Travel

For those wanting to discover an ancient town made famous by its huge mud built mosque, Djenne budget travel offers a fascinating visit to one of Mali’s most beautiful and interesting destinations.

The history of Djenne dates back to between the 15th and 17th Centuries, when the town began to grow as a trans-Saharan trade port, with gold and other products traded.

Today, the market still runs every week on a Monday, offering a number of goods for purchase. The core highlight of the town however is the Great Mosque, which is made entirely of mud, and was built in the early 1900s.

Djenne Budget Safaris

The mosque and the nearby ruins of Djenne-Junu, once the site of an ancient city, have caused the town of Djenne to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There are many other fascinating sights that pay testament to the town’s ancient lure, including the Tapama Dienepo tomb, which is rumoured to house the remains of a young girl who allegedly sacrificed her life to save the town from ruin in the 19th Century.

The house of the traditional chief is another site worth visiting, along with the Sacred Well of Nana Wangara. Together, these attractions make Djenne budget safaris a must for anyone with an appreciation of ancient culture.
