With a number of national parks and game reserves, Malawi wildlife is relatively rich, with a number of species to be found across its various parks and natural habitats. The most common form of wildlife that you will encounter in Malawi are hippo, crocodile and antelope, with elephant, lion, leopard and many other big game species also found in the various parks.

Other than game, common animals in Malawi include a large number of reptiles that can be found across the different habitats of the country, as well as a huge number of fish. The freshwater areas such as Lake Malawi are home to a large number of colourful fish, and with clear water it is possible to spot these fish when snorkelling or swimming in the lake. There are also a large number of insects also to be found across the country, including beautiful butterflies of all colours and sizes.
