The most typical Malawi religion you may encounter on your Overlanding Africa.com is Christianity; however there are also a number of Islam followers. The country is fairly conservative, despite being laid back and relaxed, which means that respect is needed when visiting Malawi. Women should cover shoulders and wear long skirts as per the traditional culture for women in Malawi, and respect should be given to all Malawians, regardless of their religion.
In addition to Christianity and Islam, there are also smaller numbers of Judaism and Hinduism followers, with even smaller numbers of Baha'ism followers. Despite having 'mainstream' religions, like many African countries, traditional beliefs play a key role in Malawi culture, with many practicing traditional religions in addition to westernised religion.
