While Malawi money & banking can be done in Lilongwe or Blantyre, mostly the country is fairly limited on this front. Banking hours are Monday to Friday from 08h00-14h00, however banks are mostly only found in the larger towns and airports. There are few ATMs in the larger towns too, but not all of these accept foreign cards. The best bet is to exchange your currency for Malawi Kwacha, or for Dollars, Euros, Pounds or South African Rands, all of which are accepted to some degree.
Credit cards are accepted at some hotels and establishments, but this is not always the case - the smaller villages and more remote areas do not have much in the way of financial facilities, so be sure to be prepared when travelling through Malawi.
