Malawi customs for your Overlanding Africa.com trip are fairly routine, with the following permitted for import (for travelers over 16 years of age only):
• 200 cigarettes or 225g of tobacco
• 1 liter of spirits
• 1 liter of beer
• 1 liter of wine
Certain items are prohibited for import and export, such as firearms, drugs, live animals or animal products. Dogs and cats must be accompanied by a veterinarian good health certificate and a certificate of vaccination against rabies if they are brought into the country. You will also need to have a Yellow Fever vaccination to enter Malawi, like many other countries in Africa; otherwise you may be denied access. Make sure that you have all relevant papers with you when you reach customs.
