About Nosy Be

Nosy Be is an island in Madagascar. Nosy Be backpacking tours are one of the biggest highlights of Madagascar travel experiences and are highly recommended for all nature lovers.

Nosy Be airports include the following:
•Antananarivo Airport

As an Important Bird Area (IBA) in Madagascar, Nosy Be birdlife is rich and diverse, with a large number of endemic and migratory species to be found.

As one of Madagascar's key tourist areas and most diverse islands, Nosy Be conservation is essential to protect the number of rare and endangered species found in this region, including lemurs and chameleon species.

Nosy Be malaria medication includes the following:
•Mefloquine (Lariam)
•Atovaquone/proguanil (Malarone)

Nosy Be plant life ranges from fragrant frangipani to jasmine, vanilla, coffee, cocoa and many other lush tropical plants.

Safety Tips

•Beggars and pickpockets are common in the city - walk assertively and keep valuables out of sight and safe in a moneybag under your clothes
•Roads can be very bad, and zebu often cross in large herds so be cautious when driving
•Be careful walking around at night, and women especially should avoid walking alone
•Avoid large crowds or demonstrations which could turn violent

Travel Books

Nosy Be recommended travel books include:
•Madagascar: The Bradt Travel Guide by Hilary Bradt
•Guide to the Mammals of Madagascar by Nick Garbutt
•The botanical and zoological park of Tsimbazaza: Guidelines for the future by Judith Evans Parker
•Birds of Madagascar: A Photographic Guide by Peter Morris, Frank Hawkins, and Mark Andrews
•Madagascar Travel Pack by Globetrotter

Nosy Be wildlife includes the famous Macaco (Black) Lemur, as well as the enchanting Nosy Bé Panther Chameleon and a range of Boa constrictors and other fascinating creatures.
