Chloe24 Apr 2012: Hello, I am looking to visit Madagascar in September 2013 for three weeks. I would love to see as much as the country as I can, including Nosy Be, Ile Sainte Marie, Antananarivo and visit the Ranomafana National Park. I would be travelling on a budget, and wondered if there are any tours that go to these places for travellers on a budget? I'm up for any type of accomodation, whether it's camping, hostels, hotels etc. Any help and advice would be much appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from you !
Minette - OverlandingAfrica.com20 Apr 2012: Hi Marozaan, Madagscar is an amazing island and perfect for romantic getaways, so yes in my opinion a great destination for a honeymoon. The seasons pretty much work as follows: Late January - March: cyclone season, peak herp (reptiles and amphibians) season, best time for flowering orchids. April - May: rains mostly finished leaving the countryside lush and green. July - August: coolest time of the year, peak whale watching season in the Bay of Antongil (July-Sept), many animals inactive or hibernating. September - December: excellent time for birding, the breeding season. October - November: baby lemur season, generally mild weather. Happy trails!

There are budget tours available in Madagascar however they only run with a minimum of 6 persons so it can be tricky getting on a tour that will actually run. Tania - OverlandingAfrica.com23 Sep 2009: Whew Annelien - what a good question! I am not aware of such a vehicle ferry operating as a scheduled service but they must have got vehicles over there some how right?! :) I understand that vehicles can be 'exported' to Madagascar by cargo or container ship but it is very expensive. I can only suggest you contact a Port Authority in either of those countries or perhaps a import/export clearing agent for advice. Good luck!
