About Cyrene

Cyrene is an ancient Greek ruins situated in Libya's Jebel Akhdar highlands. As one of the most important archaeological sites in Libya, Cyrene backpacking tours are highly recommended for a glimpse into fascinating ancient Greek ruins.

Airports

Cyrene airports include:
•Tripoli International Airport
•Benina International Airport

Safety Tips

•With a very low tourism level, this ancient city is very peaceful and quiet with almost no problems or crime at all
•Some of the ruins have not been uncovered, so be careful when walking through the area
•Wear solid walking or hiking shoes and not sandals or open shoes
•Show respect and do not break or damage any of the ruins
•Like the whole of Libya, alcohol is illegal in Cyrene, do not drink under any circumstances

Travel Books

Cyrene recommended travel books include the following:
•Libya Lonely Planet by Anthony Ham
•Libya In Pictures by Francesca Di Piazza
•Cyrene and Apollonia: An historical guide by Richard G Goodchild
•Geology of Egypt and Libya by E. Tawadros
•Tripolitania: Libya Archaeological Guide by Philip Kenrick
