Beirut Transport

As the city is fairly compact, Beirut transport is relatively simple and hassle-free, with a number of affordable options to get around the country. It is possible to drive from one end of the country to another in just a few hours, and as such, the most common forms of transport are road-based. There are no trains operating in Lebanon, and air travel is only for getting in and out of the country.

Getting around Beirut

Getting around Beirut is simply a case of choosing the transport option that works best for your needs and budget. Public transport in Beirut is indicated by red number plates – always make sure to check that any form of transport you are using has this indicator to avoid being scammed.

Private or service taxis are the most commonly used transport methods in Beirut, getting you from A to B quickly and cheaply. Service taxis carry 4-6 passengers, who share the fare between them, which is around 2000 Lebanese Lira. Private taxis are pricier, costing about the same as a shared taxi. It is also possible to cycle in the city, although the traffic is very congested.
