Many travellers are concerned about Kenya safety – is it safe to travel to Kenya?
In recent years there have been a number of issues ranging from terrorist attacks, clashes with Somali rebels, tribal clashes, political unrest and a number of crimes ranging from mugging and robbery to carjacking.
Despite these challenges, Kenya’s game parks and tourist areas are generally safe for travel – all visitors should take extra precautions however and should be cautious at all times.
The border near Somalia has had a number of incidents of clashes between Kenyan military and Somali rebels, and travel to all areas within 30km of the border should be avoided.
Large crowds and street demonstrations should be avoided, as these could turn violent. The slums and other low-income areas should also be avoided where possible, due to the high crime in these areas.
All travellers should avoid travelling alone, especially after dark, and should keep valuables safe and out of site.
