Wadi Rum Desert Money & Banking

Wadi Rum Desert money & banking is done in Amman and other busy cities, with no banking facilities in the desert itself. Airports, hotels, shopping centres and banks are all able to exchange currency. The currency used in Wadi Rum Desert is the Jordanian dinar (JD), which is divided into 1000 fils and 100 piastres (or qirsh). Banknotes are found in 1, 5, 10, 20, and 50 dinar denominations, while coins come in 1, 5 and 10 piastres, plus 1/4 and 1/2.

A number of banks are found within the country, and banking hours are typically Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 16:00, and Saturdays from 08:00 to 13:00. Travellers cheques are not accepted, and banks will not be able to cash these either. Credit cards are widely accepted however. If you are planning to use your debit or ATM card, make sure that your bank is supported, and try to only draw from public ATMs during busy daylight hours to avoid fraud or theft.
