South Africa Travel Information
Travellers to South Africa must have 2 blank pages in their passport
that lie side by side to one another. Passports must be valid for
travel for at least six months. It has happened in the past when
travellers have been turned away because they do not have these
two blank pages. Do not put yourself in this situation as it can
be very frustrating!
A parent travelling with children will need a letter from the other
parent if they are travelling alone. The letter is a letter of consent
and has to be certified. If you would like an in depth look into
more Africa Visa and passport information then please visit our
Visa and passport section.
Africa Wildlife Photography Tips
Photographing that rare animal in Africa is a proud moment for
just about anyone. It takes time, patience and an understanding
of animal behaviour to be able to produce award-winning photographs.
Perhaps read about animal behaviour before you go overlanding.
Listen to what the guides and crew have to say about certain types
of wildlife and you will be able to predict the actions and potential
behaviour of the animals you're trying to photograph. When taking
close-up pictures of wildlife always remember to focus your lens
on the animal's eyes. This guarantees that most of the animal's
face will be in focus.
It is important to remember that, although you may want the perfect
photograph, it is not advisable to interfere with the natural behaviour
of animals. Whilst taking photographs in Africa it is sometimes
better to pack your camera away, take in all of the sights and sounds
and enjoy your overlanding journey through Africa.

South Africa VAT refunds
Foreign tourists in South Africa can have their VAT refunded, provided
they spend more than R250 on one item. All VAT refunds happen when
you depart the country. Travellers MUST keep all of their tax invoices,
the items which you would like a refund from and your foreign passport.
When trying to claim VAT back upon your departure, you will be
required to fill out forms and declare all goods. VAT in South Africa
is at 14%.
Choosing an African overland tour
We suggest that before you choose an overland tour, that you find
out which season you would prefer to travel in. There are certain
countries in Africa that suffer from extreme temperatures during
summer, in which case you may prefer to travel during the winter.
It is best to confirm information about local weather conditions
before travelling. Browse through our comprehensive Africa
weather guide for further information.
