Ghana Transport

Ghana transport options range in affordability and reliability, with a number of options on offer for travelers.

Not all options are known for comfort or reliability however, so be prepared to find typical third world transport in Ghana.

Getting around Ghana

There are many options for getting around Ghana, all varying in safety, reliability and affordability.

Car Travel in Ghana
Roads are improving, and while some are still not up to par, most of the roads near Accra are fairly good. Foreign vehicles are restricted to drive between 6pm and 6am however, so be warned if you plan to drive at night.

Bus Travel in Ghana
There is quite a good bus service operating in Accra that is ideal for long distance travelling around the country. Prices are fair, and buses are mostly reliable and not too uncomfortable.

Train Travel in Ghana
Trains run through many cities, but are generally very slow and often unreliable. Costs are fairly reasonable however.

Taxi Travel in Ghana
The most common and cheap transport option is the ‘tro tro’ taxis, which are not known for their safety but are the cheapest option by far.
